Red Alert for Net Neutrality: the Senate is about to vote on the future of the Internet, and major websites are planning to “go red” to sound the alarm

It’s official. The Senate will discharge a Congressional Review Act (CRA) petition on May 9th, forcing an imminent up or down vote on the FCC’s repeal of net neutrality.

Starting on May 9th until the Senate vote, major websites, subreddits, online forums, organizations and social media profiles plan to go on Red Alert to sound the alarm and activate Internet users to contact their lawmakers en masse.

Reddit, Mozilla, Etsy, Foursquare, Vimeo, Tumblr, Private Internet Access, Fark, BoingBoing, Bittorrent, Gandi.net, Namecheap, Sonos, and others have already joined. The groups behind BattleForTheNet.com provide widget code, graphics, etc. to put your site or social media account on Red Alert starting may 9th.

The CRA resolution only needs a simple majority to pass, and we need to win big in the Senate in order to build momentum for an uphill battle in the House. This is an all hands on deck moment. Let’s do this.
